With school just around the corner, it???s a great time to look at options to assist your children in becoming more attentive in class and during the day in general. Neuro-behavioral disorders, such as hyperactivity and chronic or short attention span, can be addressed in natural ways.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate 4.4 million American youth have the diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD).

Signs of ADHD include hyperactivity and chronic inattention or short attention spans. Concentration is difficult for the child and he is easily distracted. Reflexologists look at this opportunity to help a child relax and find peace in the moment.

Reflexology is a form of pressure point therapy that is applied to feet and hands, relaxing the body.  It???s also a valuable tool for parents to help children cope with stress in a very healthy and nurturing way.

In Israel, Shmuel Zaidel???s Institute of Human Ecology has trained reflexologists to work with children with ADHD. Zaidel???s method shows the children find a calmness by having their feet worked on and actually view their sessions as a learning experience.

In other cases, children receiving reflexology on a regular basis are shown to have improvement in sleeping patterns, self confidence and school work. Try the following natural technique with your children to bring them into a relaxed balance and ready for school days:

Reflex-Touch Point

Holding the child???s foot between both of your hands, sole facing you (with fingers on top of the foot and thumbs on the bottom), gently press as many points on the bottom of the foot as you can find with your thumbs. This gentle, but consistent application of pressure can be very soothing to young children, and help relax older children.
