Q. I want to plan a day at the spa for my mom and my two sisters as a part of our summer break. Do you have any suggestions for planning so we can all get scheduled?
A. What a great idea for spending fun time together during the summer. With the economy the way it is many people are choosing to do simple fun events close to home instead of expensive travel oriented vacations. Most spas offer a wide variety of options so everyone in your group should be able to enjoy a service suited to them. Here are some tips to scheduling your day. Step one is to choose a date that will work for all of you. Have a couple of options available when you call the spa. If you can manage a weekday you’ll usually find that the day spa has more openings and can work with you easier than on a busy weekend. The earlier you call and schedule the more flexibility you’ll have as well. Many spas, mine included, have someone who can help you navigate the options and set up a fun day. Have your budget in mind before you begin to look. Check out the spa’s service menu on line or request a menu and go over it before you call. Write down ideas and interests for each of you. Be open to new and fun choices. Have each of your party give you several options incase some are unavailable. If you’d like to try and set up some services together or in the same room make that request up front. Ask about party or private rooms available. Let the scheduler know you’d like to stay together as much as possible. Do realize you will have some private time as well. Many spas have pre-designed spa packages at prices less than the single menu price. If you’d like to have a spa lunch or snacks ask about including it as a part of your package. Be prepared to give a credit card to hold your appointment times. Many facilities require this if you are scheduling more than three services on any single day. Check the website of your spa for forms and paperwork that can be downloaded and filled out ahead of time. Just like any vacation or fun event good planning helps to make the day go smoothly. Call a few days prior to your day and be sure you have all the correct times and necessary information. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the day.
