The Misery of Missing Minerals

Most of us in this country have little trouble finding something to eat, but even with this abundance of food, we are sadly deficient in many of the minerals that our bodies need to function at their best. In fact, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported in 1997 that most Americans suffer from severe mineral malnutrition, with women lacking particularly in iron, calcium, magnesium, and zinc, and men lacking particularly magnesium and zinc.

Minerals are involved in most of the physiological processes in our bodies, but they are particularly necessary for providing the structural materials for building bones and connective tissues, facilitating the production of neurotransmitters and hormones, and functioning as an integral part of chemical and enzyme reactions.
