Massage, a natural cold remedy?

Q. Can a cold with some nasal inflammation be helped by massage?

A. This time of year that is a question I hear often. Everything from the common cold to a sprained ankle to skin conditions can suffer from inflammation. It can be a sign of infection or need for medical attention but often it’s not serious. A light massage can help. There are a few spa treatments that could help. Infrared heat like our infrared body wrap can help relieve the body of pain and help get rid of toxins that linger in inflamed areas. Infrared heat aids in the production of white blood cells which can help reduce swelling. It can also help reduce cortisol levels to keep down stress. Antioxidant facials provide detoxification with free radical fighting ingredients such as vitamins A, C, and E along with minerals that help pull out fluids that have build up in the skin. A massage or a facial that includes a massage of the sinus area can help relieve the pressure you feel in your head and help you relax. I would caution you to not go to have any of these services done if you are running a fever and instead visit your doctor. If you are past the stage of the illness that would cause a fever then please be kind enough to inform your therapist that you are still feeling ill. They can help you and protect their self from the “bug”.
After your spa service be sure to drink plenty of water for 24 hours to completely flush out the toxins the service released.
