Colossians 1: 2 & 3 “And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth. For (as far as the world is concerned) you have died, and your (new, real) life is hidden with Christ in God.”
This basic exhortation form the Apostle Paul seems so easy yet Christians everywhere have a difficult time adjusting to it.
After all, how can we set our minds on the things above if we are living here? We get up in the morning and turn on our favorite new program and watch with a glazed eye as the beautiful anchors tell us how the world is going to Hell in a hand basket! We are constantly bombarded by negatives which keep us in peril!
Setting our minds on the things above is certainly great advice! What things are above? Our heavenly home complete with our true reward for our Christ-like action while here in this world.
I would think that the individual engaged in the extended ministry of Jesus Christ in this world would eagerly look beyond the things of the earth to that which is promised.
However, individuals not engaged in the work of the Gospel ministry and not heaping or sowing into that which does not rust, would not tend to look into things which are...empty.
Christianity is a participatory endeavor. One cannot live for Christ if one is not doing the things or work of Christ. It is through this renewal that justifies. For faith without works is dead!
Although there is nothing we can do to ‘earn’ salvation, true salvation causes one to activate in their Christianity in some form.
Simply going to ‘church’ and warming a ‘pew’ is not enough. At salvation we become the church; an organism that is ‘called out’ to do exploits in the name of their King!
Tomorrow, do something different. Don’t turn on the ‘bad news’ show. Stand and give thanks to God for the day...then go and take it for His glory!
Motivate, motivate, motivate for the glory of God. Redeem the time while you have the time and ability.
God loves you so much that He gave His only Son...trust Him. He will not forsake you.
