Cedarville’s 10-member team has maximized its resources by making a number of significant changes over the past year, including quadrupling color output in print services, merging and moving print and mail services, participating in training and continuing education, and upgrading equipment. Through these developments, the university has been able to produce personalized and direct-targeted pieces for potential students, contributing to record numbers in applications.
    
One of the most significant improvements was the creation of a package tracking system. Postal and print services used a team of seniors from the computer sciences department who needed a project to meet graduation requirements.  The students worked with staff and wrote software, which reduced a process that took 45 seconds per package and reduced it to 10 seconds.
    
In addition, presort automation of outgoing mail has saved the university upwards of $25,000 in postage as well as countless labor hours in hand labeling pieces.
    
Tammy Slone, manager of postal and print services, says of the changes leading to the award: “We could not have accomplished any of this without great staff support and our teammates throughout the changes.”
