The event, the first of its kind held in Miami County, is being presented by Upper Valley Medical Center and will feature free health screenings such as blood pressure checks, non fasting cholesterol and A1C checks, body mass index checks, Derma Scan and many others.  It will also include breakout sessions and other activities like chair massages, mini-makeovers, fitness demos and heart healthy refreshments. Designed to bring the Go Red for Women movement to the communities north of the I-70/I-75 corridor, “Go Red Goes North,” will be a fun and informative event, free and open to everyone.
 
“We expect the event to attract 500 people,” said Cris Peterson, Go Red for Women director for the American Heart Association, Miami Valley Division. “In keeping with the messaging of the Go Red campaign, the goal is to educate and empower women of all ages to know their numbers and take control of their health.”

 Through the support of local companies and individuals, the movement has reached millions of women with lifesaving messages. “Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, and one in three women has some form of cardiovascular disease, often undetected,” said Peterson. “To help change those statistics, Go Red for Women events will help women learn about their personal risk of heart disease and give heart healthy tips that may lead to a healthier heart.”

The 2010 Go Red Goes North event is co-chaired by Kirk Stucki of Battelle & Battelle and Susan Funderburg of Early Express.  Other sponsors include Buckeye Insurance, Dr. Bentley, DDS and PR Specialty.  

Women should first know their numbers and assess their risks.
