Fairborn, Ohio – The City of Fairborn September 11 Memorial Committee has recently been informed that the New York Port Authority approved its request for a piece of the World Trade Center steel.  The Committee is awaiting notification as to when the piece can be picked up, which will be some time after the 9/11/2010 ceremony. The proposed site for the WTC artifact will be at the National Center for Medical Readiness, also known as Calamityville, where 9/11 ceremonies will be conducted after 2010.

Chairman of the September 11 Memorial Committee, Frank Gilbert, stated that the artifact will be both visible and accessible to the public.

“Our intent is to build a lasting public memorial which will be the centerpiece of our annual ceremony,” stated Gilbert.

Along with Frank Gilbert, the memorial committee members include Fairborn Fire Chief Mike Riley, Fairborn Police Chief Terry Barlow, Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Paul Newman, Fairborn Parks & Recreation Superintendent Pete Bales, business owner Mike Foy, and Fairborn Public Information Officer Katie Lewallen.
