Erik Wahl points out innovative ways to reach peak performance and embracing change for the staff at CTC.
This past Monday, August 23 Springfield Clark CTC held their annual beginning of the year staff opening meeting, in addition to the Board of Education Members there was a very special guest speaker whose identity was kept from the staff until that morning.
Though the transition from a JVS to a not CTC center began years ago. In the midst of the transition to Springfield Clark CTC they had to shed the trade school image. CTC staff spent time this summer finding out what they have to offer the community and determing Who they are, What is their product, and Who do they serve. Because of the differences from other organizations, CTC’s staff was able to determine exactly who they are. CTC’s product are student performance, having students walk out of CTC with college credits and certifications and finally providing exceptional customer service. Due to the distinct differences from former JVS programs, Superintendent Brad Moffit wanted to remind his staff that they just don’t serve the students, but that they serve the parents and community too. Superintendent Moffit looked to the corporate world to train his educators.
After meeting nationally Key Note speaker Erik Wahl a few years ago, Moffit knew that his vision of helping professionals to achieve greater levels of performance were much different than the norm. Wahl is a recognized artist and speaker, his consulting firm, The Wahl Group, challenges organizations to implement breakthrough thinking techniques to accomplish extraordinary results.
Erik’s unique understanding of vision traces back to his experience as an artist. After earning his bachelors degree in Business Communication he than began an eight year career as a partner in a corporate firm. Erik’s unique visionary leadership teaching them how to embrace change is an exceptional wayto seeing things in a different light.
During the one-of-a-kind program, The Art of Vision, Erik painted a picture of the Statue of Liberty during a U2 song. The staff and Board Members were able to take the key points from Erik’s program and use them to become more innovative and productive.
When asked Superintendent Moffit how his staff reacted, he stated “They loved it, they found it uplifting, inspirational and gave them that kick to start the school year off in a good way”. Moffit knew that in order for his staff and Board Members to serve the community and provide a product that is unique in every way he had to do something extraordinary in order for his staff to embrace the change of such a high tech organization. When asked about the impact that Wahl has placed on his life, Moffit states, “I’ve been blessed in my career to have the opportunity to meet people like Erik Wahl” and even pointing out the uniqueness of CTC and how it can touch many lives, not just the students that attend. CTC is embarking on a new vision and with the school year just beginning, the program that Erik Wahl has to offer is right up the alley for CTC, on beginning their new vision.
