Who is the Sweetest of Springfield ??. If you attend the Springfield Peace Center’s seventh annual “Sweetness of Peace” fundraiser Sunday, Feb. 12th from 2-4 p.m.at 105 Shouvlin, Wittenberg University, you can vote on who will receive this “coveted” award. Community leaders helping with the benefit as “celebrity presenters” are Police Chief Stephen Moody (last year’s winner), Terry Fox, Habitat Restore manager, Winkie Mitchell, Rocking Horse Center, behavioral nurse administrator, David Smiddy, Director, Warder Literacy Center and Nettie Carter Smith, Clark County Court Administrator.
Each tax deductible ticket purchased for $10 will allow you ten portions of any dessert you choose from the caterers as well as a chance to vote for the “Sweetest of Springfield” and the chance to win door prizes. Some of the caterers participating are: Amy Bard Catering, Cake Creations, Collier’s Family Restaurant, Current Cuisine, Me’la Urban Bistro, Piersons, Simply Delicious and Sodexo. A group from the Springfield Youth Symphony will provide musical entertainment.
Proceeds from this benefit will go to the Springfield Peace Center toward the annual Peace Camp which will be held June 11-15th at Lagonda Elementary. As in years past, 120+ volunteers will help teach conflict resolution, appreciation of differences and skills to handle bullies to the first 225 children who register for Peace Camp.(Applications available after Easter) This important community service has been provided free every summer since 1987.
