On Thursday, February 9th, Dr. David Estrop, Superintendent of Springfield City School District, will recommend that the Board of Education hire Mr. Eric Gillespie as the Head Varsity Football Coach of Springfield High. The Board will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at Clark Center, Room 14, 1500 W. Jefferson Street, in Springfield at 6 PM.
The recommendation follows a search to fill the vacant Head Coach position. The search committee included two parents, a player, a community member, a high school teacher, and a district administrator. The committee conducted their interviews with the aim of selecting a coach who met the key traits determined by a community forum. “Mr. Gillespie ’s experiences, knowledge and skills are a good match to the traits were looking for in our new football coach.” said Superintendent Estrop. “He’s familiar with our community, he’s been a successful Division I head football coach, and he’s prepared players to go on to play in college. In addition, his experience leading the turnaround of two previous programs is quite impressive. I look forward to presenting my recommendation to our School Board on Thursday. “
