School Board Hires Eric Gillespie as Springfield Head Varsity Football Coach

Thursday, February 9th, the Springfield City School Board of Education hired Mr. Eric Gillespie as the Head Varsity Football Coach of Springfield High.

Mr. Gillespie was selected as a finalist from a strong field of candidates. The search committee included two parents, a player, a community member, a high school teacher, and a district administrator. The committee conducted their interviews with the aim of selecting a coach who met the key traits determined by a community forum. The final selection was made by Superintendent Dr. David Estrop.

“We’re excited to bring Eric Gillespie to Springfield to lead our football program,” said Superintendent Estrop.“He’s familiar with our community, he’s been a successful Division I head football coach, and he’s prepared players to go on to play in college. In addition, his experience leading the turnaround of two previous programs is quite impressive.”

Mr. Gillespie said, “I’m very excited to have this opportunity. I look forward to leading a first‐class Wildcat football program that positively molds young men and impacts Springfield High School and the whole community. I’ve appreciated the involvement of the community in the interview process, and I'm anxious to meet the players, their families, and the rest of the Springfield Wildcat community.” Eric Gillespie comes to SHS from Richmond High School in Indiana where he spent five years as head football coach.
