LUCY E. MALLETT
Age 87, passed away on August 10, 2010 at her home at 334 Sycamore Valley Miamisburg, Ohio 45342. Lucy was born on May 16, 1923 in Monroe County, Ohio (near Woodsfield, Ohio) and was the daughter of Edward and Clara (Paulus) Starr. On March 7, 1948, Lucy married her husband, Franklin, and they moved from Monroe County first to Columbus, Ohio and thence to the Dayton, Ohio area where she spent the last 60 years of her life. Lucy was a devoted Christian all her life and until her declining health precluded her participation, she was very active in several United Methodist Churches, including Medway United Methodist and New Carlisle United Methodist Church. At the time of her death she was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church in Miamisburg. She will be remembered for her many services to the church and her God including Sunday School teacher, Trustee of the church, Membership Secretary, President of the United Methodist Women and many other commissions and committees. Neither did she neglect her civic duties and served in many ways including election board representative, school system volunteer, and Girl Scout troop leader. Lucy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as a friend to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed. She is survived by her husband Franklin of 62 years as well as 3 daughters and 2 sons. They are Bonnie (Joseph) Melhart of Fort Worth, Texas, Bruce (Becky) Mallett of Atlanta, Georgia, Brian (Elaine) Mallett of Belle Meade, New Jersey, Beth (Floyd) Baker of Burke, Virginia, and Belinda Mallett of Springboro, Ohio. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Kelly Richey, Susan Hudson, Jennifer Bird, Hollie Hendershot, Lauren Melhart, Benjamin Mallett, Gregory Mallett, Douglas Mallett, Megan Baker, Ivan Mallett, Floyd Baker IV, Joshua Baker, Elena Mallett. Seven great-grandchildren also survive: Elizabeth Richey, Ethan Richey, Alexis Bird, Michael Bird, Andrew Hendershot, Ashley Hendershot, London Hudson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Vernon, Roy, Ralph, and Clarence; and 3 sisters: Mary Opal Starr, Edith Dixon, and Helen Starr. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Friday, August 13, 2010 in the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio. Funeral service will be 10 AM Saturday, August 14 in the funeral home with Rev. Deb Holder officiating, Lucy’s pastor. Burial will be in the Medway Cemetery. Wendell E. Orr
Wendell E. Orr, 71 passed away August 9, 2010 at St. John's Rehabilitation Center, Springfield. He was born March 29, 1939 in Springfield, Ohio to Taylor and Dora (Benson) Orr. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp and retired after 30 years of service from General Motors. Wendell married Tanta (Crowley) Orr, a wonderful and devoted wife with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage August 5, 2010. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Tanta (Crowley) Orr; three sons of Springfield; Christopher E. Orr, Shane L. (Tiffany) Orr, Kevin McWhorter; four daughters of Springfield, Tammy Y. Orr, Tarsha D. Fain, Shawn (Nehemiah Story) Orr and Karla Williams of Savannah, GA; one sister, Joan Ragland of Springfield; 25 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and special friends Connie Hill and Vardor McKindea. Mr. Orr was preceded in death by his parents; Taylor and Dora (Benson) Orr and siblings, Taylor Orr, Jr., Dorothy M. Orr, Marion M. (Orr) Bullock;Vera V. (Orr) McKindra, Constance L. Alberta M. Cassidy
Alberta M. Cassidy, 70, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2010 in the Eaglewood Care Center. She was born on May, 18, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Albert and Helen Smith. She served for many years as a dedicated office manager at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base. In 1982, she was preceded in death by her husband of over twenty-five years, Edward Cassidy. Alberta was involved with the Collie Club of America for forty-one years and bred several “Best in Show” Collies. During her time at WPAFB she worked with the production of the Stealth Bomber and had the honor of flying to California to witness the first flight of the Stealth Bomber. Alberta is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Rob Turner of Springfield, one son, Scott Cassidy of Vandalia, six grandchildren: Jennifer Cassidy, Janice Simpson, Jessica Simpson, Sarah Cassidy, Kirsten Simpson, and Emma Cassidy; four great grandchildren: Brooklyn Goodall, Braiden Bowshier, Kahlen Simpson, and Madison Wianas. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010 from 4-6 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Royal Oak Memorial Gardens in Brookville.
