Rolle: Miami Fans Still Mad Over ‘02 Title Game

Written by Bryant Billing
COLUMBUS — The 2002 National Championship game at the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on January 1, 2003, is still, some seven-and-a-half years later, a source of pride and fond memories for many Ohio State fans. It was then that the Buckeyes ended their 34-year drought and reclaimed the top spot among college football with a 14-0 perfect record. Names like Maurice Clarett, Craig Krenzel, and Michael Jenkins still bring smiles to many fans.

HAMILTON — It wasn’t the opening game that anyone involved with the Springfield football program — fan, player, and coach alike — hoped for. But, it was reality for the Wildcats, and it came in the form of a 14-6 season-opening loss to the Hamilton Big Blue at Virgil Schwarm Stadium in Hamilton on Friday, August 27. It came in the form of a sloppy game, one in which Springfield turned the ball over five times and lacked consistency on offense.

Buckeyes Eyeing Sixth-Straight Big Ten Title

Written by Bryant Billing
COLUMBUS — It’s not secret that Big Ten football in the last decade, especially the last half of it, was dominated by the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State has either shared or won the conference title out-right every year since 2005, and they’ve taken most of the conference’s headlines in the national media, either good or bad.
